Resort opens Warm Springs lift, lodge

Lift access to the top of Bald Mountain is now available from the Warm Springs base via the Challenger lift.

The Warm Springs Day Lodge is also open.

“I think people should come and enjoy some of the new food offerings at the Warm Springs Day Lodge,” Sun Valley Co. spokesman Jack Sibbach said. “Our new food director, John Murcko, has some great new stuff lined up.”

Murcko said the food at the Warm Springs Lodge will be “casual gourmet.”

“We will offer an elevated level of service there,” he said. “People won’t have to get their own silverware or water and the tables will be bussed.”

Sibbach said Thursday that the resort is on schedule to open additional terrain today, including Flying Squirrel, Lower Picabo and Lower Warm Springs on the Warm Springs side. On the River Run side, Roundhouse Slope and Lower Canyon will be debuted.

 

Have ‘Coffee with the Community’

The Blaine County School District is inviting the public to a cup of coffee and a chat with school board members and district administrators at its monthly Coffee With the Community event.

The next gathering takes place from 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Castle’s Corner in Carey.

“No agenda, no presentation, just dialogue over a cup of coffee,” states a district press release.

 

Learn about fishing on the Snake

Fishing the Snake River in eastern Idaho will be the topic of the next Hemingway Chapter of Trout Unlimited meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6.

Boots Allen, a senior guide with Snake River Angler in Jackson Hole, Wyo., will be the featured speaker with a presentation titled “Snake River Secrets: One River, Two Very Different Streams.” According to a press release, Allen will talk about techniques for fishing both the Snake River and the South Fork of the Snake River.

“Boots Allen’s talk will provide an intimate look at both streams and will describe the trout, food types, season and water holding types that set the two streams apart,” states the press release. “Understanding these differences will assist anglers to have a better understanding of the river’s ecosystem as a whole.”

The meeting is free and open to the public. It will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Whiskey Jacques’ Restaurant & Nightclub in downtown Ketchum.

 

Winter gala Saturday in Sun Valley

Holiday events will come to life Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Sun Valley Village.

They will begin at 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting for a gingerbread village. A 20-by-30-foot re-creation of the Sun Valley Village, Bald Mountain and the Snowball Express will be unveiled in the Boiler Room. This fantasy winter wonderland is a  replica of Sun Valley during its glamorous debut as America’s first destination resort.

Next, the holiday window stroll’s scavenger hunt begins. This is a self-guided stroll through the village with a theme of “celebrating the language of the holidays.” Participants will receive game cards at retail shops, the recreation center, front desks or at the Boiler Room deck. Then, the hunt is on. After game cards are  turned in at the Boiler Room, 10 grand prizes will be drawn at 4:30 p.m.

Wagon rides around the village will be available and Santa will make his arrival at the Bald Mountain Pizza deck at 3:30 p.m. Festive food carts will offer treats of the season. All the activities are free.

Input sought on URA projects

The Ketchum Urban Renewal Agency and the Ketchum Community Development Corp. will host a joint workshop Wednesday, Dec. 5, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Ketchum City Hall.

According to the event description on the Ketchum URA’s website, the workshop will provide the public an opportunity to learn about projects adopted by the two organizations and to suggest future projects to the organizations.

“It’s a URA-driven event,” URA Commissioner Trina Peters said. “It’s really to engage the public in the URA planning process and to get input from people.”

Peters said the workshop will begin with a short presentation, then attendees will break out into smaller groups to conduct input sessions.
