Bellevue seeks to fill empty City Council seat

3 incumbents have new, 2-year terms

By TONY EVANS
Express Staff Writer

Three incumbent Bellevue City Council members ran unopposed in the Nov. 6 election, yet one city council seat remains to be filled in January.

Amber Avila, Larry Plott and Barbara Patterson all will be sworn into two-year terms on the Bellevue City Council on Jan. 13. Dave Hattula and Janet Duffy are already on the council, serving the remaining year of their two-year terms.

Incumbent City Councilwoman Sara Burns decided not to run for re-election, and will step down in January.

Mayor Chris Koch said that Burns cited other time commitments as her reason for stepping down.

Koch said he hopes to fill the vacant seat with an appointed member in January.

“We would love to have more public support. It is a lot of work for those on the council,” Koch said. “Anyone interested in serving should start attending City Council meetings right away to find out what is going on.”

City Council members set the budget for the city, and make many decisions pertaining to zoning and development. Koch said anyone with questions about the position could call him at City Hall, at 788-2128.

Letters of interest for the council seat should be sent to Bellevue City Hall, 115 Poplar Street, Bellevue, ID 83313.
