Swimmers log top times in Nampa pool

Regionals coming to Ketchum Oct. 20


Ten SV5B swim team members coached by Brian Gallagher joined a field of 250 in the Koudelka Memorial USA Swimming-sanctioned Short Course Invitational meet Oct. 6-7 at Nampa Recreation Center.

Olivia Wentzell, 15, and Maddie Johnson, 14, each piled up six wins. In Women’s 15-and-over, Wentzell won 50 and 100 freestyle, 50 and 100 breast, and 50 and 100 butterfly. Johnson in Women’s 13-14 captured 50 and 100 free, 100 and 200 fly, 100 back and 500 freestyle.

Also, Ashley Dreyfus, 14, won the 50 and 100 breast in the Women’s 13-14 category.

Gallagher singled out impressive swims with best times from the following SV5Bers:

Mason Johnson, 12, in 50 and 100 free, 50 fly, 100 back, 100 IM and 50 breast; Eva Carlson, 9, in 50 and 100 free, 50 back and 50 breast; Petra Glenn, 11, in 50 and 100 free, 50 fly, 100 IM and 100 back; Faye Prekeges, 11, in 50 and 100 free, 50 and 100 back, and 50 breast; and Loni Unser, 14, in 100 and 500 free.

The team welcomed 13-year-olds Katherine Lemma and Danielle Doerflein who competed in their first SV5B meet.

SV5B swimmers of high school age join their Wood River teammates in another prep meet Saturday, Oct. 13, at Twin Falls High School. The regional championships are coming to the Wood River YMCA pool in Ketchum Oct. 20.
