Dietrich hosts Northside volleyball

Saturday, next week

It will be a busy day of volleyball Saturday, Oct. 13, when the Northside Conference meet opens at Dietrich High School gym for eight varsity teams, four junior varsity squads and four middle school qualifiers.

Expected to be the top varsity contenders are three-time defending State 1A Division 2 champion Camas County of Fairfield along with host Dietrich and Lighthouse Christian Academy of Jerome.

They will battle for two automatic berths in this year’s state tournament Oct. 26-27 at Twin Falls High, and one state play-in opportunity.

Carey High School (8-9 overall, 6-7 league prior to Thursday’s finale against Castleford) will enter the four-day tournament as a spoiler, while the Community School of Sun Valley (0-14, 0-12) is a long shot.

Double-net varsity matches begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, then three more varsity matches start Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 4:30 p.m. on the same floor. The JV and middle school tournaments encompass only one day of action, Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
