Sun Valley Assistant Police Chief Mike Crawford has been suspended with pay after being charged earlier this month with the misdemeanor crime of driving while intoxicated.
Sun Valley Mayor Dewayne Briscoe said the suspension was made effective Monday, Aug. 20. He said the action was taken with his support by Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett.
Crawford faces arraignment on the charge Monday in Blaine County Magistrate Court.
He is accused of driving intoxicated in Hailey on Aug. 11. According to a Hailey police report, Crawford backed into a parked vehicle while attempting to parallel park on Main Street in Hailey. A Hailey police officer observed the accident and issued a DUI citation after Crawford allegedly failed three field-sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol level of .17, which is more than double the legal driving blood-alcohol limit in Idaho of .08.
