Blaine County Prosecuting Attorney Jim Thomas has concluded that the February deaths of former Bellevue Mayor Jon Anderson and his ex-wife, Linda Vaughan, were the result of a murder-suicide perpetrated by Anderson.
"There was no evidence of a struggle between Vaughan and Anderson nor indications of forced entry," states a June 7 report from Thomas to Bellevue Marshal Larry Clark and Hailey Police Chief Jeff Gunter.
In the report, Thomas states that there was ample evidence at the scene to conclude that Anderson, 55, first shot and killed Vaughan, 58, with a .357 caliber handgun "while she lay face down in her bed" and then killed himself with shot from the same gun.
The report by Thomas confirms a determination by the county coroner in February that the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide.
"Based on the collective data I have reviewed, I concur with the coroner's assessment and believe that the evidence overwhelmingly points to the fact that Jon Anderson murdered Linda Vaughan then took his own life in a suicide," Thomas wrote. "As there are no additional suspects, I will not be filing criminal charges and will consider this matter closed."
The bodies of Anderson and Vaughan were found on the morning of Feb. 7 at their home at 320 Walnut St. in Bellevue. Though divorced earlier, Anderson and Vaughan were living together. Anderson was the primary caregiver for Vaughan, who suffered from multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair.
