Take it to the top

Resort will offer summit-to-base skiing on Baldy next week

By TREVON MILLIARD
Express Staff Writer

With the Pioneer Mountains in the background, sunlight bounces off Roundhouse Slope on Bald Mountain Wednesday. Sun Valley Resort conducted a demonstration ride of the new Roundhouse gondola, left, for members of the press, in advance of the resort’s Winter Expo & Gondola ’Ganza on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at River Run Plaza. Free gondola rides will begin immediately following a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. at the gondola’s lower terminal. Other events will include snowcat and snowmaking displays, a terrain park preview, prizes and raffles, culinary specialties, and free hot chocolate and hot cider. Photo by David N. Seelig

Skiers and snowboarders will have plenty to be thankful for come Thanksgiving Day—being on the snow 13 days earlier than they were last year.

Sun Valley Co. has announced that the runs open on Bald Mountain on its Thanksgiving Day opening will be Upper College, Flying Squirrel, Lower Picabo, Lower Warm Springs, Roundhouse Lane, Mid River Run, 42nd Street, Lower River Run and Kinderspielplatz.

Lifts opening that day will be River Run, Roundhouse gondola, Christmas, Challenger and Kinderspielplatz.

At Dollar Mountain, lifts opening on Thanksgiving will be Accelerator Magic Carpet, Quarter Dollar and the Tubing Magic Carpet. Trails opening will be Poverty Flats, Quarter Dollar Bowl, and a portion of both Race Hill and Cabin Practice Slope.

On Bald Mountain, Lower River Run will also feature a progression terrain park until mid-December, when it will be moved to Dollar.

The Roundhouse will be open for continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m., but those wishing to eat before lifts open at 9 a.m. must buy a breakfast ticket at River Run base to ride the gondola up. Breakfast will end at 10:30, with lunch running from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The newly renovated Averell's Bar inside Roundhouse will be serving beer and wine from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Food will be served at River Run, Warm Springs and Carol's Dollar Mountain lodges.

Call (800) 635-4150 for the latest information on mountain conditions and services.

Obviously trying to blend in wearing normal street clothes, yet topped off by his traditional red cap . . .

"I THINK I SAW SANTA" . . . going for a free ride on the wonderful new Sun Valley Gondola.

Saturday was a great event. What a great addition the Sun Valley Company has shared with the community.

Hats off to the entire Sun Valley Corp organization!

I love the new attitude at Sun Valley Company. As a Winter emlpoyee at Pete Lane's I have noticed a big swing toward the direction of a more youthfull, fun atmosphere.

Go Tim Silva!
