Bellevue students to honor veterans

The public is invited to join Bellevue Elementary School students in honoring U.S. veterans on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The Veterans Day celebration kicks off at 8:15 a.m. in the school gymnasium. Flag ceremonies will be presented by Hailey-Bellevue Boy Scouts, Bellevue Junior Girl Scout Troop 333 and the Bellevue Honor Choir.

The school extends a special invitation to all veterans.

Holiday basket program seeks applicants

The Sawtooth Board of Realtors Community Baskets 2009 application schedule sign-up will take place at the Community Center in Hailey today from 1:30-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, from 1:30-7 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 3-7 p.m. Applicants should have picture identification and proof of Blaine County residency.

Hunger Coalition moves location

The Hunger Coalition will move to 121 Honeysuckle Road in Bellevue today and tomorrow. The food-assistance organization will move into a 5,000-square-foot, two-story facility.

The coalition will use the downstairs for food storage and will now have a working warehouse to support its Backpack Club, Mobile Food Bank and Infant Formula Initiative. The upstairs offices will include a private intake office, volunteer space and training facility.

Community Campus to screen film on foreign missile threat to U.S.

The Heritage Foundation, a public policy research institute, will present the documentary film "33 minutes: Protecting America in the New Missile Age" at the Community Campus in Hailey on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 6:30 p.m.

The free film screening will also include a question-and-answer session with James Carafano, a Heritage Foundation expert in defense and homeland security.

Avalanche center wins award

The Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center was honored for its participation and work beyond what is expected at the 2008 Regional Forester Awards in Ogden, Utah.

Regional Forester Harv Forsgren presented awards in eight categories.

"This is a special occasion for us to take the time to recognize those who go beyond their day-to-day responsibilities and accomplish extraordinary work to make this agency successful," Forsgren said. "I continue to be impressed by the quality of this region's employees, our volunteers and our partners."

The Sawtooth National Forest Avalanche Center in Ketchum provides avalanche danger advisories, avalanche-related informational products such as brochures and videos, and basic avalanche awareness education for the public and employees.
