Fairfield election nets 1 new councilor

2 incumbents re-elected

By JON DUVAL
Express Staff Writer

Challenger Kelli Fox beat incumbent Bob Mullenberg on Tuesday to capture a two-year seat on the Fairfield City Council.

Fox, 32, received 92 votes to Mullenberg's 49, earning her first-ever stint in city politics.

"The community has really supported me and I wanted to give back," said Fox, a 15-year Fairfield resident. "I'm just going to learn the ropes right off the bat, but I'm really interested in the city's new water and sewer projects, and to make sure these are done right."

Mayor David Hanks echoed the importance of the two projects. Replacement of the city's sewer system, a $1.6 million project, is scheduled to get under way first.

Hanks said the lone female in public office will be a welcome addition to the city.

"She will add a different color to everything we do and will bring a new perspective to the council," he said.

This week's election also resulted in the re-election of council incumbents Jeff Kreyssig and Scott Marolf, who received 110 and 101 votes, respectively, to win four-year terms. The pair were challenged by W.W. Knox, who received 47 votes.
