Broadway comes to stage in Carey play

Comedy hijinks at a bed & breakfast

Mistaken identities cause plenty of confusion and comedy in Carey High School's production of "Bed, Breakfast and Broadway," to be staged Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Director Ken Mecham and student director Charmaine Kirkland have put the nine-student cast through their paces this fall, and the result is a two-act situation comedy that runs a brisk 60 minutes.

Amy Ellsworth and Brad Peck are cast as the husband-and-wife owners of a bed-and-breakfast hotel in a small town. The wife also serves as director of a community theater group. She learns that a Hollywood producer is coming to town and staying at the hotel.

Word gets around, and it seems that everybody in town wants to audition for their big break with the producer. Trouble is, a man who checks into the B&B is misidentified as the Hollywood producer. In reality, he's an air traffic controller seeking a much-needed vacation from his high-pressure job. When the townspeople start to line up to see him, he becomes even more high strung and nervous. And when the real Hollywood producer shows up, everybody thinks he's the janitor.

Cast as auditioning actors and actresses are Shane Bingham, Blair Peck and Candace Hennefer. Lynn Mecham is the air traffic controller and Micaela Adamson is his wife. Charlie Rivera portrays the Hollywood producer, and Nathan Van Every turns out to be the real janitor. Helping out backstage are Jaret Koudelka with lights along with Lorene Andrews, Shay Stewart and Kirkland in the makeup department. Tickets are $3 adults, $2.50 students and $1 seniors.
