Ribi, Youngman cruise to victory

Both win easily in field of 5

By TREVON MILLIARD
Express Staff Writer

Incumbent Nils Ribi was re-elected to the Sun Valley City Council on Tuesday, winning the most votes of any candidate. Candidate Bob Youngman, a former physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, also won a seat on the council.

Sun Valley voters showed up in a steady stream for a City Council election that was permeated with contention due to anonymous letters slamming candidates.

Of the council's four seats, two were up for election this year, with five candidates running. Incumbent Ribi ran for re-election, but Councilman Dave Chase did not.

Final vote tabulations were: Ribi—382; Youngman—327; David Barovetto, architect—115; Milt Adam, retired mechanical design engineer—113; and Stephen Poindexter, Sun Valley Resort front desk clerk—13.

Since it's an open election, the two candidates with the most votes won.

The city tallied 499 votes total, with 199 of those from absentee ballots.

City Clerk Kelly Ek reported the city having about 950 registered voters earlier in the day, but didn't have new registrations from the day added to that at press time.

Points of interest this election were keeping Sun Valley competitive with other Western resorts, the city's voice in the airport replacement, managing development, and Sun Valley's independence from Ketchum.

The election results are in and I didn't win. In fact I came in last place out of five. The election went to Nils Ribi, and Bob Youngman. Out of all the votes cast I finished with 13 votes. I would like to thank everyone who supported me in this race. Even though the results are as it is. The work I started to improve Sun Valley will not change. Sun Valley, Idaho is now my permanent home. I love this community and hope to run again in two years. I will keep fighting for those ideas that I ran on. I ran a positive campaign, and chose to keep this race about the issues. Both of the men that won are very smart and will bring a lot to the table. It is my job now to get more involved with the city. To really learn those issues that affect the city of Sun Valley. My hope is that the city council will help bring more business here to Sun Valley, and that existing business will stay open past 10 pm. Thank you again to my family in Georgia and Florida. To my friends across the country, and those 12 people that turned out and voted for me.

From Sun Valley, Idaho
God Bless You all,

Stephen L. Poindexter
2009 Sun Valley, Idaho City Council Candidate
