The Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation has been providing the Wood River Valley's youth with opportunities in skiing and snowboarding for over 40 years. This season, about 450 young athletes are expected to be involved in the alpine, cross-country, freestyle and snowboard programs.
Through its fundraising efforts, the SVSEF provides training facilities, racing opportunities, academic assistance to athletes and financial aid (nearly $160,000 last season).
The SVSEF's annual Fall Game Dinner and Auction makes it all possible. The organization's most important fundraising event, now in its 33rd year, will take place Saturday, Nov. 7, in the Limelight Room at the Sun Valley Inn.
The evening will begin at 5:30 with cocktails and jazz provided by Alan Pennay, followed by a savory sit-down dinner of fine game selected by Mountain Pride and prepared by Sun Valley's talented chefs. Entrées will include roasted elk and duck confit.
"This is a fabulous event," said SVSEF Development Director Karoline Droege. "It is an opportunity to socialize and see friends we have not seen all summer."
The auction and dinner will be followed by dancing to the tunes of Super Curve.
Director/producer David Butterfield will screen a short film about Jack Simpson, a ski coach and one of the founders of the SVSEF.
Simpson helped install a rope tow on Penny Mountain in the early days and helped to establish the first junior ski program in Sun Valley.
The Jack Simpson Dedicated Coach Award is given each year during the Fall Game Dinner to honor an outstanding SVSEF coach. The evening will also include mystery balloon sales, and live and silent auctions.
Auction highlights include a day of skiing with former World Cup racers Erik Schlopy, Bryon Friedman, and Zach and Reggie Crist, with a private dinner party at Apple's and music by Friedman.
Also among the 55 featured auction items are cat-skiing trips, jewelry, art and a one-week vacation for eight at Jumby Bay Resort on the island of Antigua (valued at $50,000).
Tickets are $100 per person and sponsor tables are $1,500 for a seating of 10 (includes sponsorship recognition). Wine is included with dinner and vegetarian meals are available.
Seating is limited and by reservation only. For more information call Droege at 726-4129, ext. 111 or e-mail karoline@svsef.org
