Northside spikers in final week of action

Tournament opens Oct. 21 at Dietrich

It's down to the final week of Northside Conference regular-season prep volleyball battles.

And, before Tuesday night's pivotal league action, only three spots were settled for the seven-school double elimination tournament starting Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Dietrich.

The Camas County Mushers (14-1, 11-0 league) have nailed down the top seed, while defending champion Dietrich (12-4, 8-2) is firmly entrenched as the second seed, and Murtaugh is entering as the seventh seed.

But coach Kathy Whitworth's Carey Panthers (10-6, 6-4 league) needed another win over visiting Richfield (6-8, 6-4) on Carey's "Senior Night" Tuesday, Oct. 13 to clinch the third seed in next week's meet.

And coach Reamy Goodwin's much-improved Community School Cutthroats (4-8, 2-8 league) were still playing for a shot at the fifth seed in their league match against Magic Valley Christian (6-9, 3-8) in Jerome on Tuesday night.

Last week, Carey swept its Northside road match over The Community School 25-22, 25-9, 25-13 at The Fish Tank in Sun Valley. The Cutthroats bounced back Friday night to win the season series with Twin Falls Christian Academy in three games in Sun Valley.

Next week's Northside varsity tournament will be played Wednesday and Thursday nights at Dietrich, and finishing up Saturday, Oct. 24. The league's junior high and junior varsity tournament will begin Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m. and finish up that evening on the same Dietrich court.
