Idaho Meth Project receives grant
The Idaho Community Foundation's Deer Creek Fund recently awarded a $2,500 grant to the Idaho Meth Project.
"This generous gift from the trustees of the Deer Creek Fund will help us to continue to significantly reduce the prevalence of first-time methamphetamine use in Blaine County and throughout the Wood River Valley," said Megan Ronk, executive director of the Idaho Meth Project.
The Deer Creek Fund has provided support to nonprofits throughout the Wood River Valley and beyond since 1999. To find more information about the Idaho Meth Project, go to www.idahomethproject.org.
Boat registration time is here
The Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is reminding boat owners that Idaho boating registration dollars help fund the county recreational boating services and marine law enforcement activities through the registration designation process.
The department began to mail Idaho boat registration renewals to registered boat owners this month.
Idaho has a unique system in place that allows boaters to decide which county receives their registration dollars. Boaters are encouraged to designate the county where they choose to boat most frequently.
Annual registration fees are determined by vessel length. Boats up to 12 feet in length are $20 and those over 12 feet are $20 plus $2 per foot over 12 feet. Boats owned by nonprofit organizations are $2.
Only sailboats and motorboats must be numbered and registered. New boats can be numbered and registered by visiting a local boat registration vendor, a county assessor's or motor vehicle office or the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. For information call the department at (208) 334-4197.
Career counseling offered at CSI
The College of Southern Idaho Blaine County Center will hold a free one-day, two-workshop career counseling seminar at the Community Campus in Hailey on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The morning workshop is designed to help participants decide what kind of jobs might fit their talents and personalities. Participants will discuss job options in a small group with a facilitator, and then take several online inventories to help assess interests and possible job matches.
In the afternoon session, helpful tips will be provided about the job search process, how to prepare a resumé and how to deliver a strong interview.
Individuals can register for one or both workshops. Advance registration is required. Call 788-2033.
CSI Blaine County will be closed between Dec. 23 and Jan. 5.
Tickets available for Galena benefit
The Blaine County Recreation District and the Galena Trails Advisory Council will host the 13th annual Galena Winter Dinner and Benefit Auction on Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Limelight Room at the Sun Valley Inn.
No tax dollars go to maintenance of Galena Lodge, a public recreation hub and restaurant located north of Ketchum on state Highway 75. The funds raised at the benefit are considered crucial to keeping Galena Lodge open.

Obama staffer to address Idaho Dems
An Idaho resident who has had key roles in Barack Obama's campaign and his upcoming administration will be the keynote speaker for the Idaho Democratic Party's 2009 Frank Church Banquet.
Jim Messina will address state Democrats on March 7, 2009, during the party's Frank Church Weekend. He served as chief of staff for Obama's presidential campaign and will be deputy chief of staff in the Obama White House.
The banquet is set for 7 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel-Riverside, with a no-host bar and silent auction starting at 6 p.m. Tickets ($75 per person; $65 for Idaho Democratic Party membership fund contributors) are available by calling the Idaho Democratic Party at (208) 336-1815 or by sending a check to the Idaho Democratic Party, P.O.
