The Wood River wrestling team is still looking for its first overall win of the season after losing to Valley High School 58-18 Wednesday night in Hailey.
But despite the team's struggles, certain individuals continue to shine.
Jordan Vert, a junior who has been Wood River's rock this season, won again Wednesday night, pinning his Valley opponent just one minute and 23 seconds into the opening period.
"He's really doing good," said Wood River head coach Logan Brower. "He wrestles with real solid control."
Sophomore Isaac Sherbine, who's also wrestled well this season, was the only other Wood River wrestler to snag a victory, rapidly pinning his opponent 30 seconds into the first period. The match was officially classified as an exhibition.
Pocatello was supposed to make the trip to Hailey Wednesday night but apparently cancelled.
Freshman Aksel Sliwicki, and sophomore Alex Jones lost by decision, 2-9 and 3-11, respectively.
Freshman Ryan Breen, sophomore C.J. Gorringe and senior Sid Watson were all pinned in their matches.
Wood River has a week to prepare for their next meet, the Sugar-Salem Invitational, in Sugar City on Jan. 27 and 28.
Brower, in his first year as head coach, said team members will use that time to learn from past mistakes and refine their skills.
"They're still making mistakes, but they're starting to get it," Brower said.
